OFFICIAL NEWS RELEASE
DROUGHT CONTINGENCY PROTOCOL LIFTED

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY – The BPW Board has directed the Board of Public Works to lift drought contingency protocol eliminating water restrictions. Pumping and static well levels are currently at or above the normal range. Rainfall amounts for the year are at twenty-seven inches, which exceeds the target level of twenty-two inches. While water restrictions are lifted, the Board of Public Works would like to let customers know that the water department will continue the commitment to an alternative short-term water source. In addition, a reminder that being mindful of usage during the winter months when rain and snowfalls may be limited is recommended as the well conditions can change quickly.

BPW would like to thank the customers for being diligent during the last year. The immediate drop in water usage when called upon avoided catastrophic equipment failure. Continued efforts allowed the wells to sustain necessary water needs while allowing the aquifer time to recover. The current protocol is under review and discussion is underway to determine ways to improve the steps taken during a drought situation.

The Board is proactive of locating alternate forms of water resources, so that long-term solutions can be implemented. Any questions can be answered by contacting the Auburn Board of Public Works at 402-274-4981 and asking for General Manager Ray Luhring or Water/Wastewater Manager Alan Slater.
