DROUGHT CONTINGENCY PLAN UPDATE OCTOBER 17, 2024

DROUGHT CONTINGENCY PLAN UPDATE – OCTOBER 17, 2024
The Board of Public Works is diligent in its efforts to provide quality service to their customers. Drought conditions have left some communities with shallow wells, in a position to be proactive in conservation efforts, to mitigate a crisis situation.

Actions that the Board of Public Works has implemented are as follows:

  • Pumping of wells has been slowed to allow the ground water time to recharge. The pumps will maintain longer running times, but at a slower rate.
  • Projects utilizing water consumption have been placed on hold.
  • Operators are vigilant in working to locate and repair leaks.
  • Employees help educate consumers that may be unaware of the current conditions.
  • Other water entities nearby that have deep wells or have treatment facilities that pull from the Missouri River are on standby to truck water in the event that we are not able to maintain our water reservoir levels.
  • The Nemaha County Emergency Management team is prepared to supply bottled water in the event of a crisis situation.
  • Data will be provided with daily readings on number of gallons pumped, pumping times and reservoir levels. This will keep the public informed of current conditions. See the City of Auburn website at https://auburn.ne.gov for updates.

The Auburn and Peru communities have actively made changes in consumption. It is evident from the data. This data shows how civic minded this area is and that collectively we make a difference.
Thank you for your continued support.
