DROUGHT CONTINGENCY PLAN UPDATE OCTOBER 23, 2024
The Board of Public Works is working diligently to make sure water levels remain stable. The recent rain was needed, but there have not been signs of recharge. We continue to provide data with daily readings on the number of gallons pumped, pumping times, and reservoir levels. This will keep the public informed of current conditions. See the City of Auburn website at https://auburn.ne.gov for updates.
Did you know:
• The City of Auburn pulls water from Longs Creek to clean the streets. The water is not treated, saving cost to City and does not affect the well levels.
• The Auburn Waterboy is shut down for bulk water customers. We are directing contractors in need of bulk water to Nebraska City or other communities to purchase bulk water.
• Water recycled at the wastewater plant is pumped to the Country Club and the grass is watered to ensure all water is placed back into the ground and available for recharge.
If you have questions about the status of any of our activities, please contact the BPW and we are happy to provide you with statistics of rainfall, well levels and daily monitoring of the water pumped. All systems are actively monitored, and data is kept on file permanently. The reservoir holds 1.5 million gallons of water and has not dropped below the normal levels. This is due to the implementation of the plan and the collaboration of the members of the Auburn and Peru communities’ reduction in use.
Data shows relative stability in usage in the last 24 hours. Pumping well levels remained stable in the last 24 hours. Four wells are still dangerously low. Loss of these wells will most certainly cause a situation where trucking water from outside resources will be needed to support the needs of Auburn and Peru communities.
Please report misuse of water to the Board of Public Works.
