DROUGHT CONTINGENCY PLAN UPDATE OCTOBER 31, 2024
The Board of Public Works is working diligently to make sure water levels remain stable. We continue to provide data with daily readings on the number of gallons pumped, pumping times, and reservoir levels. This will keep the public informed of current conditions. See the City of Auburn website at https://auburn.ne.gov for updates.
Helpful tips:
•Make sure cigarettes or other lit materials are properly extinguished. A fire would take a toll on resources.
•Do not fill pools and put a cover over the top to prevent evaporation.
•Shut off landscape fountains if possible.
If you have questions about the status of any of our activities, please contact the BPW and we are happy to provide you with statistics of rainfall, well levels and daily monitoring of the water pumped. All systems are actively monitored, and data is kept on file permanently. The reservoir holds 1.5 million gallons of water and has not dropped below the normal levels. This is due to the implementation of the plan and the collaboration of the members of the Auburn and Peru communities’ reduction in use.
We are hoping that the recent rain will begin to recharge our wells. Rainfall from northern communities can also increase the river levels and help with recharge. The pumping level over the past 24 hours is stable. We are following up with any leads where water reduction is possible. Four wells are still dangerously low. Loss of these wells will most certainly cause a situation where trucking water from outside resources will be needed to support the needs of Auburn and Peru communities. Community-wide efforts are effective, and your assistance is appreciated.
Please report misuse of water to the Board of Public Works.
