The commercial district contains one-part and two-part commercial block buildings. The ground floor level was used for public functions such as retail, restaurants, hotel lobby, etc. and the upper level was used more for private functions such as residences, offices and meeting rooms.
The New Opera House – building was constructed in 1890 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. “The facade of the New Opera House is typical Of Nebraska opera houses built in the 1890’s. For a town the size of Auburn, with a more limited income base than larger cities, the facade is quite elaborate.” The ground level was used for retail and the upper level was the Opera House. Looking down the street you will notice the different styles Of architecture which includes High Victorian, Italianate and Art Deco.
